It’s November a time that we start thinking about Thanksgiving. I know that we as a church have been giving all year. But November is the month that we thank God for the many blessings that we have received because we could give.
Ruth’s story is a story of kindness in action. And of course we should strive to imitate her. But kindness does not always come easy. When we are discouraged, tired, or afraid, we can scarcely summon the energy to utter a single kind word. Still, God’s commandment is clear: He intends that we make the conscious choice to treat others with kindness and respect, no matter our circumstances, no matter our emotions.
John Wesley’s advice was straightforward: “Do all the good you can. By all the means you can. In all the ways you can. In all the places you can. At all the times you can. To all the people you can. As long as ever you can.” One way to do all the good we can is to spread kindness wherever we go.
This month of November slow yourself down and be alert for people who need you smile, your kind word, or your helpful hand. Make kindness a centerpiece of your dealings with others. They will be blessed, and you will be, too. Remember kindness is contagious. So make sure that you and your church family, and friends, and even strangers catch it from you.

We Are Thankful
As a young lady growing up in Mt. Pleasant, we can remember being told by the mothers of the church that; “As young ladies you should always talk, act, and carry yourself in a proper way.
The MYF played a big part in shaping our character. we can remember Mrs. Faye Luckey and her smile encouraging us to be the best we could be, and to treat and love each other with the respect we would want for ourselves.
Our seasoned “Mothers of the past”; Mrs. Melva Sykes, Mrs. Alda McLean, Mrs. Lois Gibson, just to mention a few, left a legacy for us to follow; they gave us hope for a better future, that it was okay to dream, to see the good in a person, and not to always see the negative. The times were harder and different-but the message is the same then as it is now. Always carry yourself with dignity, pride, and to keep God first in everything we do.
To Velma Alexander, Betty Luckey, Marylene Rozzelle, and Nancy Brice– we are still learning from your wisdom and the fact that we can reach out to you for guidance and know that you are still here for us—we salute you, we thank you—and you still have so much to give and offer to us — even if its just a smile to encourage us to keep on keeping on. All of our senior seasoned ladies—past and present—gave the torch to us and as “younger ladies” we hope that we have—and are doing a good job.
We love all of you and we will be forever grateful and thankful to you—for being there for us through the good times and even for the not so good times.
Mt. Pleasant has grown—and although things had to change, with the times, we can hold on because you taught us about the power of prayer, to read our Bibles, and believe we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us.
